Georgia's fascinating capital, Tbilisi, has fame for incredible food, excellent wine and healing thermal baths.
Delicious Unique Cuisine
Tbilisi offers a feast in the form of food. If you are looking forward to maintaining your waistline during your trip to Tbilisi, remember that eating meals is a supra here.
For instance, the local cheese bread, Khachapuri is filled with egg yolk, butter and Sulguni local cheese. Khinkhali is spicy meat fillings that are served with a salad dressed with bean stews and walnuts, seasoned with coriander.
The Thermal Baths
The thermal waters underneath Tbilisi have assumed an imperative part in the history of the city. Rumours have spread far and wide suggesting that Ruler Vakhtang Gorgasal picked the site for the city after his hunting falcon got back with a pheasant that had been poached in its waters.
During ancient times when the city was a significant trading spot on the silk route, visiting traders needed to wash in the waters before entering the city. Indeed, even the city's name gets from the old Georgian word for 'warm', Tbilisi.
Today, the vast majority of the thermal baths are found in the Abanotubani region. The showers follow the Persian practice of permitting the hot, sulphurous water to bubble normally.
This is very rejuvenating. The bathing ritual involves soaking in a hot bath for 15 minutes. It is followed by a scrub, massage and rinse.
Wine Culture
Wine is important to Georgia’s nationwide identity for a nice reason: Georgians have been yielding extraordinary wine for more than 8,000 years. A very famous one is the Khvanchkara. It is a sweet red wine from the Racha mountain region.
You can enjoy these as the prices are very reasonable. A bottle of good quality wine cost around £3.
